How can I become a dive instructor?
To become a scuba instructor, you need to have been certified as an entry-level diver with any agency for at least six months before you can start your instructor course. You also need Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, and Dive Master certifications. You need to be a certified Emergency First Response instructor, have logged 100 open water dives, and successfully completed the instructor development course, which is usually a 10-day course. During the course, you learn how to work with students, handle problems, present dive theory, and demonstrate concepts effectively.
You can then sit the instructor evaluation exam, a 2-day affair which includes presentations, mock instructor scenarios, multiple written exams and more. The instructor evaluator comes from the headquarters to judge the candidates and certify instructors.

Who can become a dive instructor?
The simple answer is anyone over the age of 18 with a passion for diving and is in good physical health. You must be certified up to a divemaster before starting the instructor development course.
What does a dive instructor do?
A dive instructor teaches people how to scuba dive and assesses a person’s competencies under the water. Recreational diving instructors are usually registered members of one or more certification agencies, which are used to train and assess divers against specific certification standards. In addition to training divers, instructors are usually primarily responsible for the safety of the diving party.
When can I become a dive instructor?
Instructor Development Courses (IDC) are available all year round in many locations around the world. In some locations, these courses are run on a monthly-basis, in others, they are every few months. Do some research as to where you would like to work and gain experience. You must have been a certified diver for at least 6 months before starting your Instructor Development Course.

Wherever there is a body of water, this includes: lakes, rivers, streams, and oceans, an instructor can work. From warm waters of the Caribbean to the chilly ice dives in the Arctic Circle, you can explore it all!
By diving around the world, you get the chance to encounter, teach and work with people from different nationalities and cultures. You will interact with wildlife that most people only get to see on their television screens. Most dive instructors also become instructors as they want to share their passion for the underwater world with as many people as possible.
