If you have never been scuba diving before, your first experience may be a little daunting. At most dive centers, a try dive or discover scuba dive is available for those that want a taste of diving without having to do the full course. Here are a few things you can expect:
- You will be given a thorough safety briefing before you enter the water. This will cover things like how to use your equipment, what to do in an emergency and what to look out for when you are diving.
- You will be kitted out in all the necessary scuba diving equipment, which may include a wetsuit, mask, fins, snorkel, weights and a buoyancy control device (otherwise known as a BCD.)
- Once you are in the water, your instructor will be with you at all times, teaching you how to use your equipment and keeping an eye on you.
- You will start in a shallow pool or in shallow water, so that you can get used to the sensation of being underwater.
- As you progress, you will be able to go deeper and see more of the underwater world.
- Be sure to learn the hand signals that you will use to communicate while diving. Take a look at the ISDO hand signal course by clicking here.
